 Fiji Shaken: A 6.5-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts the Islands

Suva, FijiOn Monday morning, April 13, 2025, at 8:03 am local time, the serene islands of Fiji were rocked by a powerful 6.5-magnitude earthquake. The tremor struck at a depth of 174 kilometers, with its epicenter located south of the Fiji Islands. 





Tremors Felt Across the Islands

The earthquake's effects rippled through several regions, with noticeable shaking reported in areas such as Lautoka. Despite the quake's strength, the depth at which it occurred meant that a tsunami was not expected, as confirmed by the US Tsunami Warning System.

A Region Prone to Seismic Activity

Fiji's position within the Pacific "Ring of Fire" makes it susceptible to frequent seismic and volcanic activity. This recent earthquake is the most significant in the region this year, surpassing the 5.9-magnitude quake that struck Levuka in November 2024.
